Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) hoped Donald Trump would lose his 2016 election to former Secretary of State Hillary, according to a Democratic political strategist.
Cliff Schecter on Friday shared an audio clip from NPR radio show "To the Point" with Warren Olney of the former president's current running mate sharing his views on MAGA supporters in 2016.
"Trump's voters and Trump's phenomenon — even if he loses the election, as I hope he will — they're going to be around for a long time," Vance said. "We have to have a better conversation."
Vance also argued Clinton represented a coastal elite in a time when there was appetite for a political outsider like Trump, a New York City native who inherited a real estate business from his father Fred.
Schecter, a political commentator whose bylines appear on Al Jazeera and the Daily Beast, shared this audio clip on his YouTube channel along with his own personal views on Vance's political ideology.
"He just has a large empty doughnut-filled, and perhaps couch-filled, husk where his soul should be," said Schecter. "It doesn't matter what b------- he peddles, he wanted Trump to lose."

Schecter's video report includes several video clips — among them Haley Joel Osment satirizing Vance on late-night television and a Fox News interview in which the Ohio senator is faced with a list of his anti-Trump comments.

Schecter argued the clip he'd found stood out from these for one important reason.
"I now have a second example of him saying he wanted Donald Trump to lose," Schecter said. "And no, not in texts to people. Out loud on a news station."
