House Republicans' burning problem: 'We desperately need a place to smoke cigars'

House Republicans have a horrible problem they are looking to their leader to immediately solve, according to a new report.

"We desperately need a place to smoke cigars," Rep. Tom Cole told Axios Sunday. Another Republican told the news outlet, "It's a very important issue."

The source of this dire problem is Rep. Tom Cole's transition to House Appropriations chair, which has left House Republicans without a private place to puff their cigars, according to the Axios report.

It's seriously enough that lawmakers are calling on Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for a solution.

Cole (R-OK) reportedly lost his Capitol hideaway when he opted to let former chair Kay Granger (R-TX) retain hers, Axios reports.

"That's left Cole without a hideaway of his own and cigar aficionados without a lair," Axios reports.

House members were once able to smoke in the Speaker's Lobby, but Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi put a kibosh on the tradition, Cole told Axios.

Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA.) reportedly quipped "Plan D or E " would be to smoke in Johnon's office.

"Others will supply the alcohol, and we're just going to sit in his office, light up and not leave until Tom Cole gets a hideaway," Reschenthaler reportedly joked.

Johnson's office declined Axios' request for comment.

Cole, for his part, pledged to keep up the cigar smokers' fight.

"We're gonna keep pushing to the speaker's capable hands," Cole told Axios. "But with all due respect to the speaker, he wouldn't know which end of the cigar to light."
