U.S. Rep. James Comer was grilled on national television Friday night by a CNN host who couldn’t stop laughing. But Jake Tapper’s jaw dropped when Comer tried to argue Special Counsel David Weiss slapped son Hunter Biden with felony tax evasion charges as part of a Justice Department coverup.
“He indicted him to protect him?” Tapper demanded. “The classic rubric, I got it.”
Comer argued, yes, that the nine charges Hunter Biden now faces in California — three of them felonies — were piled onto firearm possession charges in Delaware to shield President Joe Biden’s son from the justice system.
“You indict him on the least little thing—’” Comer said.
“He’s facing like 17 additional years in prison!” Tapper interjected.
“Yeah, but—” Comer tried to say, when Tapper cut in, “These are felonies!”
“Anybody else in America would already be in prison," Comer replied.
Tapper was equally cynical about Comer’s reasons for refusing to host Hunter Biden in an open-door hearing and his assertions of a global corruption case against the president’s family.
“Why not jump on the chance to grill Hunter Biden on national television?” Tapper demanded.
When Comer replied, “this is not about politics,” Tapper laughed again.

Comer then repeated his narrative of a global conspiracy tied to Hunter Biden's prestige position in Ukraine when his father was vice president, and told Tapper he believed finance records showed “this money is coming from bad people from around the world."
Tapper replied, “I asked for one piece of evidence.”
Comer repeated the disproven claim that a Ukraine prosecutor targeting Hunter Biden's business was fired on then-Vice President Joe Biden's command, but Tapper wasn't having it.
“No,” Tapper said. “That it isn’t it.”
