President Donald Trump's Department of Homeland Security is struggling to keep its story straight about what happened in the parking lot outside Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Thursday morning.
The Los Angeles Times reported that officials at the baseball field blocked masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from entering the premises after Customs and Border Protection vehicles were spotted around the entrances.
But ICE has categorically denied this report.
"False. We were never there," wrote the X account for the ICE field office in Los Angeles. ICE's main account chimed in, too, saying the same thing word for word.
But many commenters on social media pushed back, pointing out that there was, in fact, photographic evidence they were there.
"I took this at 10:40am outside gate E at dodgers stadium," wrote CalMatters investigative reporter Sergio Olmos, showing an image of CBP vehicles right outside the gate and several heavily uniformed agents standing around.
Further complicating things, the official X account for the Department of Homeland Security posted, "This had nothing to do with the Dodgers. CBP vehicles were in the stadium parking lot very briefly, unrelated to any operation or enforcement."
But this only raised further questions.
"So who is lying lmao… either you were there unrelated to the dodgers or you weren’t there at all," one other commenter posted.
ICE agents stepped up their raids of workplaces in the Los Angeles area aggressively in recent weeks, prompting a wave of angry protests in the downtown area. President Donald Trump responded by federalizing the National Guard and deploying the Marines to keep order, with California state officials suing over the move and alleging it is an unlawful use of force.
