Internet pounces on Republican who exploited Simone Biles' Olympic win to promote tax giveaway

Sen. John Thune (R-SD) congratulated Simone Biles, of Houston, for her Olympic gold medal for gymnastics -- and then tried to shoehorn an anti-tax political message into his Twitter post.

Other social media users called out the South Dakota Republican for trying to politicize the 19-year-old's victory.

Some users attacked Thune's politics and urged him to focus on more important business, such as funding a bill to fight the spread of the Zika virus and holding hearings on President Barack Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland.
