Hunter Biden invited to public grilling by James Comer's committee

Republicans on the House Oversight and Reform Committee announced Wednesday that they're "inviting" Hunter Biden and other witnesses in their investigation into Joe Biden to testify in public.

According to the GOP account on X, the hearing will be about "Influence Peddling: Examining Joe Biden’s Abuse of Public Office."

They say that they've invited the younger Biden, along with his former business partner Devon Archer who was convicted in 2018 of being part of a scheme to defraud the South Dakota-based Wakpamni Lake Community of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.

Jason Galanis, who is also being invited to testify before the committee, was convicted of leading the scheme against the tribe.

"Archer and others were accused of misusing millions of dollars that the corporation raised by issuing bonds and, instead of investing the proceeds as agreed, using it 'for personal purposes, such as funding personal business ventures and buying jewelry, luxury cars and a new home,'" NBC News reported in January, citing court documents.

Archer was on the board of the Ukraine energy company Burisma with Hunter Biden. He told the committee in 2023 that he had no knowledge of any cases of former vice president Joe Biden trying to help his son. Democrats called the testimony a "dud" for the GOP's efforts to find any Biden corruption.

The other invited witness is Tony Bobulinski, who was also a one-time business associate with Hunter Biden. Republican Committee chairman, Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, praised Bobulinski as an "honest" and "credible" guy in a conversation with Fox News.

Yet, a Democratic ranking member of the committee, Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, claimed Bobulinski “did not provide any evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden, nor did he provide any evidence at all that President Biden was involved in his family’s business dealings.”

“When Republican investigators asked Bobulinski to describe his two interactions with Joe Biden, who was a private citizen at the time, Bobulinski said the meetings did not include any direct discussion of any involvement in the business venture by Hunter Biden, James Biden, or two other partners, James Gilliar and Rob Walker," ABC News reported last month.

The hearing is scheduled for March 20. The GOP said the witnesses have been "invited" to attend, rather than subpoenaed.
