J.D. Vance’s appearance at last week’s Conservative Political Action Conference may have been initially overshadowed by Elon Musk’s chainsaw-welding stunt, but now the vice president’s pants are making waves on social media.
The fashion fuss ignited shortly after Vance took the stage at the conservative conference and online commentators took to social media to ponder why his pants are so short these days. Some users quickly pointed out it wasn’t the first time Vance committed the “fashion faux pas,” the Daily Beast noted Monday.
“I needed to know if his pants were always too short, did he put them in the dryer?” Peggy Shinners wrote in an Instagram reel where she subjected Vance’s pant length to a thorough investigation.
Her conclusion: “They are always that short!” she said as she cycled through several pictures of the vice president sporting oddly short suit trousers at public events. “There’s always just a lil' peek of right shin coming right on out,” she said as she laughed. “It’s sending me, I can’t take it. This is absurd, it looks crazy!”

Menswear commentator Derek Guy also got in on the action: “The second lady should advise him to get wider pants and over the calf socks so that his bare leg doesn't show when he sits down,” he wrote on X.
“JD Vance praying for longer pants,” sports analyst Scott Simpson wrote on X above a photo of Vance at CPAC with his hands clasped.
“DOGE said JD Vance was spending too much on suit pants and removed 20% of their length. Tragic,” Jalopnik staff writer Bradley Brownell told his followers on X.
Another X user attached Vance rocking his short pants at the Constitutional Convention looking oddly similar to others around him.
“JD Vance is such a Constitutionalist that he wears 1700s britches and stockings,” social media user @heyradar told his followers.
