Rep. James ComerComer (R-KY) said Friday that his committee would seek names of people Jeffrey Epstein trafficked women and girls to and begin compiling a list.
“We’ve expressed to the victims it would be helpful if if they would give us some names of some people,” Comer said.
Comer, chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said the panel received materials from the Treasury Department, Politico reports. It's part of the ongoing investigation into the agency's handling of the Epstein case.
The announcement follows several days of lawmakers questioning FBI Director Kash Patel during a House Judiciary Committee hearing, demanding to know why he and the Justice Department continue to withhold investigation files around accused trafficker and molester Jeffrey Epstein.
Alex Acosta, Trump's former Secretary of Labor, will testify Friday in a closed door meeting before the House Oversight committee. Acosta helped to broker the controversial plea deal during his time as U.S. attorney in Florida that many argue allowed Epstein to continue preying on girls and women. Acosta did not take reporter questions heading into the meeting.
Some suspicious activity reports have been redacted and are in the panel's possession, Politico reports.
The panel plans to see unredacted materials on site at Treasury, Comer said.
If the list exists, Comer said, then the committee plans to find it. And if it doesn't then the committee would seek to compile its own.
“The Trump administration is fully cooperating with us,” Comer said. “We’re gonna continue to try to seek answers.”
