MS NOW's Jen Psaki was stupefied at new reporting that Trump advisers James Blair and Chris LaCivita went overseas to back a pro-Russia party in the Balkans — but even more so at the excuse Trump's super PAC gave to justify it all.
"Wherewere they this weekend?" said Psaki. "Withjust a month left until themidterms, where were they? Theywere thousands of miles awayfrom the U.S. in the Republicof Srpska, a self-governingregion within the countries ofBosnia and Herzegovina." And while there, Psaki said, they were paid "hundreds of thousands of dollars each ...to help a Putin-alignedpolitical party acquire morepower. That's what they pay for."
This party is hardcore servants of the Kremlin, Psaki noted: "the leader of thatpolitical party visited Putinat the Kremlin himself justlast week. At the meeting, heexpressed support for Russia'swar with ukraine andvillainized the West forcausing all of their problems. That's what two of Trump's toppolitical advisors were up tothis weekend, and electionsless than a month away, helpingthat guy get more politicalpower and reportedly earninghundreds of thousands ofdollars each for their trouble."
What made it even crazier, though, she said, is how MAGA Inc., the top Trump super PAC, responded to the bad press.
"As if this story could justcould even get more tone-deaf,a spokesperson for the MAGA Inc. super PAC declined tocomment on Blair and LaCivita'strip to the Balkans, but he didsay that while they wereoverseas, the two 'remainedfully engaged in the PAC'smidterm efforts,'" said Psaki, quoting The New York Times, adding that the spokesperson said "that even while they werereportedly in the Balkans, the two even hosted a team call onSaturday to go over survey data for the midterms.Again, as if the ability ofthese two MAGA advisors toparticipate in their politicalzoom calls while they were inthe Balkans was the majorconcern here."
By contrast, Psaki added, "I, forone, am just a tad bit morealarmed about the hundreds ofthousands of dollars they rakedin, working on behalf of aKremlin stooge, right? I mean, this wasn't just any race. Thiswas a race to prop up apro-Putin political party thatactively opposes the West. Andjust a reminder, guys, we arethe West. So that's not a greatlook."
