Joe Biden consoles sobbing Meghan McCain on the cancer fight her father faces: 'There's hope'

During Wednesday's episode of "The View," Meghan McCain confessed that she couldn't get through Vice President Joe Biden's book that talks about the .

Glioblastoma, the cancer that Biden's son had, is also the cancer that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) faces. Biden, who was seated in the middle of the table, got up from his seat to walk over to McCain and take her hand.

He spoke about the vast strides that scientists are making to fight the aggressive type of cancer their families both faced.

"If anyone can make it, your dad can," he told McCain.

Sen. McCain and Biden are former colleagues in the U.S Senate and were great friends. During an appearance on the show for his daughter's birthday, Sen. McCain sang Biden's praises.

"Her dad goes after me hammer and tongs," Biden said with a smile. "We were like two brothers who somehow were raised by different fathers or something because of our points of view. But I know, and I mean this sincerely, her dad got mad at me, he told me I should get the hell off the ticket. And you remember what I said? And I mean this sincerely, I know that if I picked up the phone tonight and called John McCain and said 'John, I'm at Second and Vine in Oshkosh and I need your help. Come.' He would and I would for him too."

Biden has continued his cancer moonshot begun by President Barack Obama's White House through the Biden Cancer Initiative. It hopes to "develop and drive implementation of solutions to accelerate progress in cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis, research, and care, and to reduce disparities in cancer outcomes," the website outlines.

During his appearance, Biden also spoke about the politics of President Donald Trump's administration and the win by Doug Jones in Alabama Tuesday.
