Trump reacts to Biden speech: 'Not a time for us to have a mentally challenged president'

President Joe Biden’s condemnation of Donald Trump’s hateful rhetoric Friday was met by the former president with insults and false claims about who won the 2020 election.

"The Democrats rigged the last election and they are trying it again…but it won’t work because they have shown how bad and incompetent they are," Trump told Fox News. He added, "This is not a time for us to have a mentally challenged president."

Critics of the former president — who include an MSNBC columnist, Republicans close to his former administration, former Attorney General Bill Barr and The Lincoln Project — agree.

Trump’s remarks come in response to Biden’s address to the nation nearly three years after rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2024.

Biden accused Trump of “dereliction of duty” and slammed the former President for jokes made about the violent attack of Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul.

“He thinks that's funny, he laughed about it,” Biden said. “What a sick—”

Biden left the noun up to interpretation.

Trump also suggested the only insurrection the nation faced in recent history was occurring at the southern border, where migrants have been entering the country at increased rates and stretching thin resources to the breaking point.

But Trump's is not the contention of special counsel Jack Smith, nor of the Colorado Supreme Court, or the Maine Secretary of State, where officials ruled to bump Trump from their ballots under the 14th Amendment insurrectionist ban.

Smith has accused Trump of attempting to overturn the 2020 election, a charge to which Trump pleaded not guilty.

Trump’s response did not sit well with a few of Fox News’ social media followers who caught the article on X.

“He has no choice but to be elected president to cover up his own mess and escape prosecution,” replied one user.
