'It irks me': Ex-GOP congressman who joined Dems targets the left's 'blind spot'

A former Tea Party Republican lawmaker who recently joined the Democratic party lashed out Thursday at what he considers to be the left's "blind spot."

Former GOP Congressman Joe Walsh, who recently accused Donald Trump's administration of a massive coverup, published an article called "Newsflash: The Iranian Regime Is Evil," in which he asks the question, "Why do we have to remind Americans of that?"

"Iran’s ruling regime is really, REALLY bad, okay? That shouldn’t be controversial. And you can despise Donald Trump for the threat he is to America and believe the Iranian regime is evil at the same time. I know I do," he said. "It bothers me that I even have to say this, that I have to remind people of it. Iran’s ruling regime is Islamist (not Islamic—note the difference), and it’s been the greatest single source of Islamist terror around the world for the past 45 years. Those are facts."

Walsh, a frequent guest on cable news, even called out a specific network, considered by some to have a bias to Democrats.

"I was watching CNN last night, and the subject was the Israel/Iran war and our bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities over the weekend. A commentator on the left spent the whole time ripping America and Israel—and not just Trump and Bibi Netanyahu. She argued that America and Israel are the bad guys here," the ex-lawmaker wrote. "That America and Israel are to blame for all that ails the Middle East. And it just started to piss me off."

Walsh went on to detail numerous allegations against the nation known as Iran.

"It irks me that there isn’t more criticism of Iran in America, more protests against Iran in America. While I defend anyone’s right to their beliefs and the ability to protest peacefully for them, our college campuses over these past 20 months should have seen mass protests against Hamas and its benefactor, Iran. Where were they?" he asked. "The left in America has a blind spot when it comes to criticizing Islamism. We have for a long time. The right does this too, on numerous issues, so it’s a problem across the American political spectrum. And I believe part of it is a result of negative polarization: 'Trump’s bombing Iran? Okay, then I have to defend Iran' No, you really don’t. You can think the bombings were unconstitutional. You can think they were immoral. You can think they were strategically unwise. You can be horrified that a liar and an idiot like Trump is conducting our foreign policy. A case can be made for all of these positions."

The newly minted Democrat added, "But if your argument is that Iran is a good guy? Sorry, you just look unserious and hopelessly partisan."
