California councilman removed over recording of him 'saying the N-word with the hard R'

An incoming California city councilman was removed from his post over racist remarks before he had even been sworn in.

John Osgood, who was voted in two weeks ago by Ceres City Council, but that move was rescinded after recordings surfaced of him using racial slurs and other offensive language in February on a podcast hosted by Forgotten Liberty Radio, reported KVOR-TV.

"I'm not calling anyone a name when I use the word 'n*gger'' to describe what that word is," Osgood said while discussing musician Morgan Wallen and racing driver Kyle Larson, who were facing controversy at the time for their own use of the slur in recordings.

Recordings of the podcast, which was titled "You don't have the right to be offended," surfaced after Osgood interviewed for an open seat on the city council and was selected by a 3-1 vote.

"I've been a life-long resident of Ceres," Osgood told council members at the time. "I'm a direct descendant of eight members of the Mayflower."

But the recording shocked the mayor and other council members, who rescinded their selection after Osgood's remarks were reported in local media.

"I'll tell you how I felt in the moment: My stomach was churning," said Mayor Javier Lopez, "and it really hit hard, especially with him saying the N-word with the hard 'R.'"

A new council appointment has already been made and that candidate will be voted on next month, barring unforeseen circumstances.
