FBI is investigating Lincoln Project co-founder over sexual harassment allegations: report

In a scoop published this Friday, journalist Yashar Ali says that the FBI is now investigating longtime GOP political consultant and Lincoln Project co-founder John Weaver, who has been accused by 21 men who say he sent them unsolicited and sexually provocative messages.

One of the alleged victims was 14-years-old. Weaver also allegedly offered some of the victims employment positions in exchange for sex.

"The FBI asking potential witnesses about allegations of illegal conduct does not necessarily mean that someone is the subject or a target of a federal investigation," Ali reports. "It's also unclear what the scope of the FBI's inquiry is; the sources who spoke to me said the questions they were asked were narrow in scope."

The Lincoln Project cut ties with Weaver in late January.

In a statement to the New York Times, Weaver said that he is "so disheartened and sad that I may have brought discomfort to anyone in what I thought at the time were mutually consensual discussions."

"In living a deeply closeted life, I allowed my pain to cause pain for others. For that I am truly sorry to these men and everyone and for letting so many people down," he said.

Lincoln Project co-founder George Conway has called for an independent counsel to investigate the group in the wake of the allegations against Weaver.
