Jon Stewart: Good luck getting the US to face up to 'deluge of depravity' in CIA torture report

Daily Show host Jon Stewart laughed off the idea on Tuesday that the U.S. would be ready to face up to the findings of a report detailing the CIA's torture practices following the 9/11 attacks.

"You want us to do that?" Stewart asked incredulously. "Yeah, we'll face that ugly truth in just a second, I just want to figure out, how do they get the cheese in the crust -- that's what I want to know."

Stewart showed footage of Senate Intelligence Committee chair Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) announcing several of the findings from the report, which uncovered that at least 26 of the 119 detainees subjected to threats and bodily harm were being held wrongfully.

The "deluge of depravity," as Stewart called it, led him to illustrate his feelings with shots of a character vomiting from the film Monty Python's Meaning of Life:

Stewart, whose directorial debut Rosewater dealt with journalist Maziar Bahari's own brush with an interrogator, looked particularly uncomfortable hearing about American detainees' food being "rectally infused."

"You know, it's funny: I just made this movie about a guy who triumphs over the inhuman conditions in his imprisonment in an authoritarian country, and I don't think they did half that sh*t to him," Stewart said.

Stewart also noted that the report was released a day after President Barack Obama's appearance on The Colbert Report.

"To be fair to the president, he was great on Colbert last night," Stewart said. "By the way, my guess is scheduling was not a coincidence."
