‘Just not man enough’: Morning Joe shreds ‘graceless’ Trump for wimping out in meeting San Juan mayor

President Donald Trump visited Puerto Rico, and MSNBC's Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski said he failed the most basic tests of humanity, empathy and grace.

The president complained about the hurricane recovery cost, called 16 dead a "miracle," urged one storm victim to "have a good time" and shot rolls of paper towels into a crowd.

But the "Morning Joe" hosts called attention to the way Trump appeared to not even recognize San Juan's mayor, who apologized to him after enduring personal attacks from the president all weekend on Twitter.

"For people that are outraged that she apologized to him, your outrage should all be channeled toward the president of the United States, because he lacks any humanity," Scarborough said. "He is the most graceless president to be in the Oval Office in our history. He turns his head and says nothing, because, at the end of the day, he is utterly devoid of humanity or grace."

"It's all about him," Brzezinski chimed in.

MSNBC's John Heilemann compared the president, who mouthed a silent thank you as the mayor apologized for her criticism, to a "Twitter troll."

"The people who attack you on Twitter, the people who do these things, people who are vicious, they would never see those things, if you ever meet them face to face, they would never say to you things they would say online," he said.

Heilemann said it was political "malpractice" if Trump failed to recognize the mayor, and he said it was cowardly if he did recognize her but pretended not to -- and Scarborough questioned the president's manhood.

"A lack of grace or just not man enough," Scarborough said. "If he's not going to be graceful, then be man enough to sit there and have a conversation -- but he wasn't man enough to do that."

Brzezinski said the president had failed the most basic test of his abilities.

"This should be, in terms of presidential optics, the easy part," she said. "This is about hugs. this is about warmth. This is about being the president coming in, swooping in, and saying that help is on the way. This is about making easy decisions about spending money in an area that is devastated. How is it that he is botching this so badly?"

"At what point do people within the White House and in Congress say, 'We have someone who is dysfunctional as president?'" she added.
