Judge Engoron targeted by bomb threat intended to delay closing arguments: report

The judge overseeing Donald Trump's fraud trial in New York was targeted by a bomb threat hours before closing arguments are set to begin.

Someone threatened to set off a bomb at the Long Island home of justice Arthur Engroron early Thursday morning, according to a person briefed on the matter who spoke to The Daily Beast.

The source said more than a half dozen police cars and a bomb squad were sent to the judge's home, and the threat was perceived by law enforcement as a blatant attempt to delay the trial's closing arguments.

Engoron has been flooded with anti-Semitic and violent threats throughout the case filed by New York attorney general Letitia James, who has shown evidence that Trump routinely falsified financial statements to inflate the value of his properties to obtain bank loans and insurance policies.

The judge already found Trump liable for fraud at the start of the case based on the attorney general's evidence, and he will determine the penalties against the former president at the conclusion of the trial.

Engoron issued a gag order against Trump early in the trial after he posted personal information about his chief clerk on social media, which led to threats against her and other court personnel.
