'It will be fine': Mike Johnson calmed Katie Britt's 'horror story' fears before speech

House Speaker Mike Johnson told Sen. Katie Britt not to worry about State of the Union rebuttal "horror stories" before she gave her own speech — that many have said was the worst yet.

Britt (R-AL) shared this factoid Tuesday with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on his podcast "The Verdict," where the pair of Republican senators unpacked the backlash from the "creepy" and "breathlessly weird" rebuttal.

"People are going to tell you horror stories about all these things that happen, people's careers will be blown up over it," Britt said Johnson warned her. "It will be fine."

Britt added, "The irony [is] that he's like, 'Don't you worry.'"

It turned out the Alabama Senator would have lots to worry about as parodies rolled in and political pundits argued her failure to connect with women foreshadowed a victory for President Joe Biden in his 2024 presidential rematch against Donald Trump.

Republicans faced harsh criticism for the decision to shoot Britt's rebuttal from the kitchen and to detail the story of a sex trafficking victim who later said much of the narrative was untrue.

Britt told Cruz the problem was the "liberal media."

"The liberal media isn't interested in the truth," said Britt. "They're interested in burying the truth about Joe Biden and his border crisis."

Liberals, suggested Britt, are also frightened by her kitchen.

"That's the place where we gather and I think that's threatening to them," she said.

Britt also admitted she was "here for" the Saturday Night Live cold open parody during which she was portrayed by actress Scarlett Johansson.

Cruz agreed this was an honor because Johansson is "hot."
