'I do not remember anything': GOP senator left with concussion and brain bleed after fall

Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) is recuperating from a "severe concussion" after a fall at his home, reported Politico on Tuesday.

The incident occurred over the weekend, according to reports. Cramer was at his residence in North Dakota, walking to the dock, when he slipped on ice and hit his head on the ground.

“I do not remember anything from the fall until arriving at Sanford Health emergency room with Kris. After seeing the emergency doctor, taking some tests, including a CT Scan, and seeing a neurologist, I was diagnosed with a severe concussion, a seizure, and a slight brain bleed,” said Cramer in a post to Facebook on Monday. “I am better today with only a slight brain bleed and pretty bad headaches."

"Doctors prefer I rest a little longer before returning to DC, so I do not know exactly when that will happen. It will be day to day this week, but I am ready to return quickly if events require it,” Cramer's post continued.

Cramer, who has served as North Dakota's junior senator since 2019, previously suffered another injury at his home in 2022 when working in his yard. He dropped a large rock that he was moving onto his right hand, crushing two fingers and requiring surgery and the amputation of one fingertip.

The fall comes after Cramer's son was sentenced last year to 28 years in prison for a car chase that resulted in the death of a sheriff's deputy.

His absence from Washington, D.C. while he recovers may complicate vote counts. Republicans still have a three-vote margin to confirm nominees and pass budget resolutions, including the vice presidential tiebreaking vote.
