KKK fliers call for violence against gays to 'stop AIDS' during Louisiana Klan recruiting drive

Ku Klux Klan recruitment fliers distributed in Louisiana are using anti-gay hate speech in addition to the Klan's other white supremacist talking points on race.

"Stop Aids: Support Gay Bashing," one flier distributed in Mandeville said. "Homosexual men and their sexual acts are disgusting and inhuman."

The flier also called to ban "non-white immigration," and to "deport mud people," WWL-TV reported.

A phone number and website address encouraged potential Klan members to contact the organization.

"I'm extremely hurt by it," one woman told WWL-TV. "As a member of the gay community... I think it shows the ignorance of society still."

According to WWL-TV, similar fliers have been found in other communities throughout the South this summer. Some community leaders concluded that it was part of a recruiting effort.

Covington resident Katrina Whimper told WTVT that she was surprised to find white supremacist fliers in her neighborhood.

"It just really caught me off-guard because I never thought in this neighborhood, or now these days or whatever, that that would be something we would walk out and find," Whimper said.

Just two years ago, Newton County Sheriff's Office investigated similar fliers that were distributed in Covington. But it appeared that the anti-gay language had been added for the latest recruitment drive.

St. Tammy Parish Sheriff Jack Strain, however, said this week that there wasn't much his department could do about the anti-gay fliers in Mandeville.

"There's no doubt they're trying to deliver a hateful message, and we take it very serious," Strain explained. "But at this point, we have to talk to our victim. We have to determine a lot of things including how it got there, when it got there, when she discovered it."

The FBI said that it was also monitoring the situation.
