South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem recorded and posted a nearly five-minute testimonial touting an out-of-state dental practice.
The Republican governor has been outspoken in her support for her counterpart in Texas to defy federal orders against using razor wire at the Mexican border — and now she's speaking out to promote a cosmetic dental practice in Houston where she received treatment to repair damaged teeth.
"Hi, I'm Kristi Noem, the governor of South Dakota," she says at the start of the video, posted on her official X account. "And had the opportunity to come to Smile Texas to fix my teeth, which has been absolutely amazing.
"For years I have needed to have an adjustment to my teeth from a biking accident, and they have been absolutely phenomenal."
Noem says she was injured during a bike ride with her children, who were much younger at the time, and knocked out "all" of her teeth, and she received a remote consultation a few years ago via Zoom from dentists at Smile Texas.
But she only recently underwent treatment.
"The team here was remarkable and finally gave me a smile that I can be proud of and be confident in," Noem says, flashing a toothsome grin. "And that really is a gift that I think is going to be incredibly special to have."
It's not clear whether the governor was compensated for the four-minute, 51-second infomercial or whether she received discount services for her veneers, and it's also unclear why she chose Smile Texas over one of the practices in the state she leads.
The tweet left onlookers bemused.

"Just when you think you've seen it all in politics, the South Dakota governor goes and films an infomercial for a Texas dentist that gave her fake teeth," wrote X user Jennifer Bendery.
Robert J. Salvador wrote, "Im still trying to figure out if I’m missing something bc there is no way this is real life and a sitting Governor and potential VP pick just posted this."
And user Peter Henlein wrote, "Ok. So we have sitting governors just doing infomercials for commercial businesses now. This is inappropriate and incredibly off-putting."
Last month, Noem tied with entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy for the top choice to be Donald Trump's running mate in a straw poll conducted at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
