Larry Wilmore slammed the hypocrisy of Josh Duggar and his parents over revelations that he molested young girls as they slept more than a decade ago, when he was a teenager.
“So you mean to tell me the family that goes around saying gay and trans people are pedophiles preying on America’s young people actually has a pedophile that preys on America’s young people?” Wilmore said. “I hate pedophiles but I love irony.”
The 27-year-old Duggar admitted to “inexcusable” actions last week after the release of police reports showed he had sexually abused at least five girls, including his sisters.
“I actually feel kind of sorry for the parents,” Wilmore said. “It reminds me of that old children’s story, you know -- there was an old woman who lived in a shoe, she had so many children that it was a statistical probability that at least one of them was a creepy sexual pervert.”
“When you have a sample size this large, you’re going to have a few clinkers,” he added.
TLC has called off scheduled airings of the reality show “19 Kids and Counting” in the wake of the revelations, and sponsor General Mills has decided to stop advertising its products if the show ever airs again.
“About 10 other advertisers have pulled out as well, which is ironic – because pulling out goes against everything the Duggars believe in,” Wilmore said.
Wilmore pointed out that Duggar had been photographed with many of the top contenders for the Republican presidential nomination and had worked until last week as “executive director of FRC Action, the powerful conservative political arm of the Family Research Council – a group that fights tooth and nail against gay marriage.”
He played a clip of Duggar speaking at a political rally, where he said that “every single child deserves a mother and father.”
“No, Josh, every single child deserves to be safe from dangerous hypocrites like you,” Wilmore said. “Thank God somebody finally did some research on this family.”
