Larry Wilmore slams GOP 'motherf*ckers' for illogical and un-Christian fear of Syrian refugees

Larry Wilmore blasted Republican presidential candidates for their fear and loathing of Syrian refugees.

The "Nightly Show" host ripped Gov. Chris Christie for "coming out hard" against 3- and 4-year-old children fleeing civil war in their home country, and he mocked Ben Carson who suggested allowing the refugees to enter the U.S. would be a "suspension of intellect."

"But enough about intellect -- let's hear what Mike Huckabee had to say," Wilmore said.

The former Arkansas governor appeared over the weekend on a conservative radio program, where he asked listeners to imagine desert-dwelling refugees trying to assimilate into English-speaking communities such as Minnesota -- "where it's maybe 20 degree below zero."

"Are you kidding me, Mike Huckabee?" Wilmore said. "You think these desert savages can't possibly understand the concept of coats?"

"I saw my loved ones die and then risked my life on an overcrowded raft, where I was forced to drink my own piss, all to escape ISIS in Syria -- but St. Paul's a little nippy," Wilmore imagined a refugee complaining. "The high in Damascus today was 60 degrees -- it's not Tatooine."

Wilmore was also baffled by Jeb Bush's claim that the U.S. could screen refugees to identify Christians -- which the GOP also-ran said "we do all the time."

He also slammed the mostly Republican governors "posturing about who hates refugees more," and he pointed out that federal law doesn't give them the authority to dictate immigration policy.

"So this is just old men making empty threats," Wilmore said. "It's like that time Clint Eastwood yelled at that chair -- but with thousands of people's lives at stake."

Wilmore said President Barack Obama might have had his blackest moment yet, when he ripped "folks (who) want to pop off" about the refugee crisis without offering a specific plan.

"The only way that could have gotten blacker is if he'd said 'motherf*ckers' instead of 'folks,'" Wilmore said.

He said Obama was uniquely qualified to talk about religious tests, because he's been accused of being a secret Muslim throughout his presidency.

"We're supposed to be better than this," Wilmore said. "That's the whole point of this country. But we've been here before. In 1939, 69 percent of Americans did not approve of resettling Jewish refugee children trying to escape the Third Reich. The government even went so far as to turn away a boat filled with German refugees, the MS St. Louis, sending it back to Europe -- where a lot of its passengers were killed in the Holocaust. Not our proudest moment."

"Look, we can help these refugees and be safe, as well," Wilmore said. "Besides, it's the Christian thing. We do it all the time."
