Lawyer for black woman violently arrested by Fort Worth cop says 'racism is all over' the video

The attorney of for a black woman violently arrested alongside her two teenage daughters said “racism is all over” the video of the incident, NBC News reports.

The video, published Thursday, shows an unidentified Fort Worth, Texas police officer wrestling Jacqueline Craig and her daughter to the ground, while he points a taser at another woman. In the lead-up to the incident, Craig told the officer a white man choked her 7-year-old son after the kid threw some papers on the ground. In response, the officer asked Craig if she taught her son “not to litter.”

As Craig chided the officer for telling her how to raise her son, the officer replied: “If you keep yelling at me, you’re going to piss me off.” The altercation escalates until the cop slams Craig and her daughter to the ground and handcuffs them.

Police arrested Craig, her 15-year old daughter, and Brea Schole Hymond—the woman who recorded the video.

Craig's attorney, S. Lee Merritt, told reporters the charges were "completely made up just to justify the unlawful arrest.”

"The inference is racism is all over it,” he continued. "If this was a white child who had been choked by a black man, there's no way on God's green Earth that they would be walking free and that the mother of that child would have been arrested along with this child's siblings.”

At a press conference Thursday, Craig said the incident made her “feel less of a parent” because she “couldn’t protect her child when he needed it.”

In a statement, the Fort Worth Police Department acknowledged the video, noting it “may raise serious questions” about the cop’s conduct. "We ask that our investigators are given the time and opportunity to thoroughly examine this incident and submit their findings."

The unidentified officer has been placed on restricted duty, the department said.
