Leaked internal RNC polls show Trump supporters believe his ‘red wave’ hype — and won’t bother voting

For the past several months, President Donald Trump has been hyping a supposed "red wave" that's coming that will sweep all elected Democrats out of office -- and it seems the president's supporters are buying it.

Bloomberg has gotten hold of a leaked internal RNC poll that shows many Trump supporters aren't going to bother voting in the upcoming midterm elections because they don't believe there's any danger that the GOP will lose control of Congress.

"According to the RNC study, completed on Sept. 2 by the polling firm Public Opinion Strategies, most voters believe Democrats will win back the House -- just not Republican voters," Bloomberg reports. "Fully half of self-identified Republicans don’t believe Democrats are likely to win back the House. And within that group, 57 percent of people who describe themselves as strong Trump supporters don’t believe Democrats have a chance."

This is particularly alarming for Republicans because the RNC's own poll shows that Democrats have a nine-point advantage in the generic ballot, which means the party could win in an absolute landslide if Trump supporters stay home this fall.

The poll also shows an intensity problem for the GOP: Trump's hardcore voting base, according to the poll, constitutes about 25 percent of the electorate, whereas 44 percent of the electorate "strongly disapprove" of Trump and are itching to get out and vote for Democrats.
