On Thursday, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) took to Twitter to blast Fox News' Tucker Carlson for promoting an upcoming network special endorsing the conspiracy theory that the January 6 attack on the Capitol was a false flag operation — as well as legitimizing conspiracy theories about the election generally.
"Tucker: are you still falsely contending the voting machines were corrupted and the election was stolen?" wrote Cheney, a frequent critic of her party's response to the Capitol attack and one of two Republicans on the investigatory committee set up by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
The upcoming Fox segment has also drawn the ire of Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn, who fiercely condemned it on CNN Thursday.
Carlson has used his position to act as an apologist for the Capitol rioters. He has previously suggested they had a relatable cause in their violent attack, and has characterized the perpetrators as "a mob of older people from unfashionable zip codes."
