Texas neo-Nazi charged with threatening to lynch Nashville DA

A Texas white supremacist has been arrested on a charge of threatening to lynch the district attorney for Nashville and Davidson County, Tenn.

The alleged threats by 59-year-old David Aaron Bloyed followed a march through downtown Nashville in which a fellow member of Goyim Defense League was arrested and charged with aggravated assault for hitting a bar employee with a metal flagpole that had a flag with a swastika affixed to the top.

Goyim Defense League is a virulently antisemitic group known for provocative public marches that openly display Nazi symbolism and fliering campaigns that frequently result in misdemeanor charges for the group’s members.

The complaint filed by the U.S. District Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee on Thursday alleges that Bloyed posted a screengrab of District Attorney Glenn R. Funk’s official bio, accompanied by the text, “Getting the rope,” on the social media platform Telegram under the username “Schwetty Balls.”

In another post published under the same username, Bloyed wrote, “The ‘Rope list’ grew by a few more Nashville jews today.” The graphic shows a figure labeled, “the elite,” “Jews,” “anti-whites” and “traitors,” along with epithets for Black people and LGBTQ+ people that is hanging from a gallows. The graphic includes the inscription, “Will You Survive the Day of the Rope?"

The charging document notes that "Day of the Rope" is "a frequently cited white-supremacist concept that originates from The Turner Diaries.” A seminal text in the white power movement, the charging document explains that the novel “depicts the violent overthrow of the United States government and culminates in a race war that leads to the systemic extermination of non-whites and Jews.”

“In a functioning democracy, we simply cannot tolerate threats of violence against elected officials,” U.S. Attorney Henry C. Leventis said in a prepared statement. “The charges announced today are just the latest illustration of the [Department of Justice’s] commitment to protecting public servants and upholding the rule of law.”

An anonymous antifascist X account, “trash.city,” originally published the screengrabs of the “Schwetty Balls” posts on an X thread on July 20. The thread noted that an October 2023 story published by the Texas Observer had previously identified Bloyed as the owner of the “Schwetty Balls” account.

The charging document also cites a post allegedly made by Bloyed that threatened the bartender who was the victim of the assault.

Responding to a post by another Goyim Defense League member mentioning the victim by name, identifying the bar where he worked, and noting that he had a Facebook account, Bloyed allegedly wrote under the “Schwetty Balls” username: “Well, he’s f---ed. Put him on the Rope list."

The charging document did not cite either “trash.city” or the Texas Observer, but the redactions and other markings on the screengrab match those posted in the X thread by “trash.city.”

According to the charging document, investigators linked the “Schwetty Balls” Telegram account to a similarly named “Schwettyballs” account on Gab, another social media platform that similarly serves as a forum for white supremacists, conspiracy theorists and extremists. The search turned up an identical post displaying Funk’s information that likewise included the inscription, “Getting the rope.”

Based on the post, the government is charging Bloyed with transmitting “a threat to injure and/or kill District Attorney Glenn Funk over the internet using his Gab account.”

The federal complaint cites an incident in November 2023 in which Bloyed was passing out racist and antisemitic fliers in the parking lot of the police department in Waxahatchie, Texas. In a Gab screed cited in the complaint, Bloyed expressed anger at being threatened with trespassing, and listed three Waxahatchie police officers by name.

“We have two choices in how to deal with these clowns in the near future: Retraining or Rope,” Bloyed wrote on Gab.

Using a racial slur for Black people, Bloyed then singled out a lieutenant as a candidate for lynching.

“Half way to the rope (you’ve got one more chance n-----,” he wrote.

Bloyed's Gab bio as identifies him as a "NatSoc," short for national socialist, and openly displays virulent antisemitism.

"My enemies are: jews, Royals, judeo church f------, secret societies, all of them," it reads. "It's the Jews! I only follow, like and repost if you are visually a raging anti-Jew."

In one post from earlier this month, Bloyed wrote that "Russia needs to ethnically clean the jews," while displaying a cartoon showing a sniper and a man with his head blown off.

An inmate record on the Navarro County Sheriff’s Office website indicates that Bloyed was admitted to the Texas jail on Thursday afternoon. Mark Wildasin, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, told Raw Story that Bloyed is expected to make his first appearance in federal court in Dallas.
