Maria Cardona bashes former Trump aide Steven Cortes for calling the immigrants 'invaders' and asserts that 'the GOP will pay for this'

Democratic strategist Maria Cardona slammed former Trump aid Steven Cortes for calling immigrants crossing the border “invaders.”

During a panel discussion with CNN's Erin Burnett, Cortes said: "If you come across our border without permission, you're an invader. No other word to describe it."

Cardona, said that people coming to the border are fleeing unimaginable dangers in their home country, and are seeking to come to the U.S. for a "smidget of hope."

"Steve, there's a law that allows people who are fleeing certain death and abominable conditions to ask for asylum. Even those presenting themselves to border patrol at legal ports of entry, their children are also being taken away, this is a perversion of the American dream," she said.

She said that Republicans will pay for their actions come the November elections.

"Trump is the only one responsible. But I will tell you one thing, all of the GOP will be a paying for it in November. That's why you have all of these Republican leaders who are so scared about the images they are seeing, and want Trump to change this now," Cardona said.
