Marjorie Taylor Greene headed to Pennsylvania for GOP poll watcher training: report
August 16, 2024
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is headed to Pennsylvania to speak at events with the Republican National Committee and Lehigh County Republican Committee to train GOP "poll watchers," reported The Morning Call on Friday.
Greene, a controversial far-right lawmaker infamous for promoting conspiracy theories about Jewish space lasers, is a close ally of former President Donald Trump.
A Zoom link to one of the events, which also specifies it is closed to the press, states, “The PA RNC Poll Watcher Training provides a comprehensive overview of Pennsylvania’s electoral process, as well as guidance on how Poll Watchers can play an important role in upholding election integrity. You will learn how to observe and report any potential problems that may arise during the voting and tabulation process.”

This event is actually one of several the GOP has organized in Pennsylvania for such purpose, the report noted: "In June, RNC Chairman Michael Whatley, RNC Co-Chair Lara Trump, former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, and U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser, R-9, held the second stop of a 'protect the vote tour' in Bucks County. The training portion of the program for that event was also closed to the press."
This is just one piece of the Republican Party's redoubled effort to create an operation to challenge election results in battleground states and across the country.
In recent months, the GOP has shifted much of the focus from advertising and voter outreach to hiring poll watchers, motivated by former President Donald Trump's false claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen. Trump allies have taken the effort seriously, with Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ) even comparing the poll watchers to SEAL Team Six.
At the same time, Trump has demanded that the RNC already begin crafting lawsuits to challenge election results that haven't even happened yet.
