Meet the big NRA sponsor who loves smearing slain black kids and their families

Donald Trump will join with his Republican colleagues Friday in addressing the National Rifle Association's annual Institute for Legislative Action leadership forum. Bearing Arms, run by racist Bob Owens, is co-sponsor of the forum.

In October 2015, Owens suggested that "radical" Democrats will be hanged because they intend to "start a civil war" against Republicans and those who own guns, according to Media Matters.

If that isn't bad enough, Owens is most known for targeting the families of slain African-American youths Trayvon Martin, Jordan Davis and Tamir Rice.

Just a few months after Martin was shot by George Zimmerman, Owens called him “a violent, drug-abusing thug who appeared to get off on hurting people” and “a semi-literate violent criminal.” He also slammed the upcoming musical about Martin's life, saying that it would be “whitewashing a black heart” and which he called an attempt to “whitewash a thug’s death.”

Just a year later, Owens went after Martin's mother, saying that she had raised a "monster" and her support to abolish Stand Your Ground laws, like the example cited by a juror explaining Zimmerman’s acquittal, was really more about her own self-promotion.

Owens declared a year later, “good people ... will arm themselves against violent young predators like Trayvon Martin” because “any society that hopes to survive simply has no choice.”

When it came to the shooting death of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, who was reported for waving around a toy pistol, Owens was disgusted by the settlement the City of Cleveland reached with the family for wrongful death. He argued that some of the money should be used “to help educate the youth of Cleveland in the dangers associated with the mishandling of both real and facsimile firearms.”

He also blamed Rice's family for the death of the child, alleging that the reason the Rice family was outraged by the police union means "the Rice family doesn’t care anymore about being responsible after Tamir’s death than they did about teaching him to be responsible with realistic toy guns while he was alive.”

After Jordan Davis was shot and killed, his mother, Lucy McBath, became an activist fighting Stand Your Ground laws. Owens claimed, “she has become radicalized, and now travels the nation attempting to strip law-abiding citizens of their most basic natural right as a human being, the right [to] bear arms for self-defense.”

Owens claimed that the death of her son had nothing to do with Stand Your Ground, but he was wrong. The language in the Stand Your Ground law was included as an instruction to the jury in the Trayvon Martin case against George Zimmerman. Before that law was enacted, jury instructions were drastically different. A juror even admitted on CNN that Zimmerman was found not guilty “because of the heat of the moment and the Stand Your Ground.”

This is just another in the long line of racist friends lining up to support Donald Trump. This week, White Nationalists at The American Freedom Party admitted on Facebook that there are many KKK delegates for Trump that the media doesn't know about. This, in addition to, support from white nationalists David Duke, William Johnson and many more. Johnson has admitted that he hopes Trump’s white nationalist message will modernize the KKK by making racism seem more mainstream.
