Michael Avenatti accuses National Enquirer parent company of involvement in pay-off to another woman who reported affair with Trump

Michael Avenatti, the attorney to adult film star Stormy Daniels, revealed Thursday that he is now representing three women given hush-money by President Donald prior to the election.

At least one of the previously unknown women was paid by AMI, the parent company of the National Enquirer. Avenatti specified that this woman was not Karen McDougal, who made a deal with the company's chair David Pecker.

"You're talking about something that is very significant that is not embedded in the wider news you made in the clip we just showed," said MSNBC host Ari Melber. "If at least one of them involves AMI, you're saying this company, which is under significant scrutiny in the Cohen case, by the feds in New York, was also doing something else allegedly on behalf of Donald Trump?"

Avenatti said it was true.

"Could that then raise their exposure for campaign finance violations or other misleadings of the authorities about what they were doing with that money?" Melber asked.

Avenatti said it would be and that in wake of his allegations this morning, not one word has come from the White House, Rudy Giuliani, Michael Cohen or his attorney Lanny Davis.

"Not a single denial. No one has come out and said, 'Oh, that Avenatti guy doesn't know what he's talking about, it never happened.' What does that tell you?" he asked.

He went on to say that he believes one of the reasons that Cohen and Trump moved away from using AMI as a conduit to pay off these women is that they wanted to "close the circle" of those involved.

"So that the president thought he had greater protection with his fixer, Michael Cohen, who turned out not to be tough and not to be too smart," Avenatti said.

He noted that the whole thing is "quite a show' that will play out over the next several months. Avenatti recalled that he's said for months Trump made the mistake of putting far too much faith in his "fixer."

Trump biographer David Cay Johnston said in an interview this week that there were many more women, some of whom are "brand name" women the public will know well. He also alluded to the possibility that women were paid to have abortions.
