Michael Bay making disaster movie about Trump-like president whose China trade war bankrupts U.S.

Filmmaker Michael Bay is known for making action-packed movies -- and now it looks like he's setting his sights on Donald Trump's presidency.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Universal Studios has won the rights to make a movie based on a Bay-produced script called Little America, in which a Trump-like president engages in a trade war with China -- with disastrous results.

Once the fictionalized version of Trump starts enacting protectionist measures against China, the country retaliates by calling in all of its debts owed by the United States.

"The Asian giant now owns America and many Americans have immigrated to China looking for work," The Hollywood Reporter writes of the film's plot. "In this new world, a former American Force Recon member is hired by a Chinese billionaire to go into an American ghetto and rescue his daughter. Sources have said it is in the tone of Escape From New York, the 1981 John Carpenter film that starred Kurt Russell."

Rowan Athale, a British filmmaker who made the 2012 thriller Waste Land, is set to direct.
