Michael Cohen destroys Trump’s defense of Stormy Daniels payoff: ‘Of course’ he knew it was illegal

Former Trump "fixer" Michael Cohen told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos on Friday that President Donald Trump knew he was doing something wrong when he paid off former mistresses during the 2016 presidential campaign.

During the interview, Cohen copped to his actions and accepted that he knowingly committed a crime to help Trump get elected two years ago.

"I knew what I was doing was wrong," he said. "I stood up before the world and I accepted the responsibility for my actions."

Stephanopoulos then asked Cohen if Trump himself knew it was wrong to authorize the payments.

"Of course," Cohen replied, while also adding that Trump was concerned about how revelations of past affairs would affect his presidential hopes in the wake of the infamous "Access Hollywood" tape in which he bragged about sexually assaulting women by grabbing their genitals.

Cohen said he was saddened, but not surprised, to see the president refusing to admit any wrongdoing.

“Instead of him taking responsibility for his actions, what does he do?” Cohen said. “He attacks my family.”
