Craig Mauger, a reporter for the Detroit News, put former Michigan Republican Party co-chair Meshawn Maddock on the spot Friday after she decried his reporting as "fake news."
Mauger this week reported on new evidence showing that the Trump campaign directly orchestrated the plot to create fake slates of electors to send to Congress on January 6th, 2021 in a bid to keep former President Donald Trump illegally in power.
Maddock decried Mauger's reporting and insisted that she and the other fake Trump electors who have been indicted on criminal charges sincerely believed that Trump had won the election and were only serving as stand-by electors in case the courts intervened to overturn President Joe Biden's victory.
Mauger wasn't buying this line, however, and pointed to the fact that the Michigan electors' signed certificates asserting themselves as Michigan's legitimate representatives in the electoral college were sent to the National Archives.

"Hey Meshawn, I read your thread about what you believed on Dec. 14, 2020," he wrote on Twitter. "Did you believe you were in the state Capitol when you signed the certificate? Did you know the certificate was going to be sent to Mike Pence and the National Archives? Simple questions."
The reporter then added some follow up questions for Maddock to answer.
"Also, can you share what Shawn Flynn told the 16 Republicans inside party headquarters?" he asked. "What other members of the Trump campaign were there, if any? None of the individuals present have shared that publicly. Lots of conflicting information out there."
