A high school student in Midlothian, Texas, is being disciplined after he appeared in a video using the N-word and saying Black people should go back to Africa, WFAA reports.
"He's in my English class," said fellow student Tylan Swiney. "He just let me borrow his charger and some colored pencils on Friday. It's shocking to me that he would even do that knowing how many people this is going to impact."
According to WFAA, the school district has dealt with similar problems before, such as in 2018 when three students were disciplined over a video where a teen used the N-word 25 times.
Making the situation for the Midlothian school district even more complicated is the fact that a local right-wing group called Respect Midlothian 1888 is demanding that critical race theory be banned from being taught in the district's schools.
"Midlothian ISD is aware of a racially charged social media post circulating on one of our high school campuses. MISD does not condone this behavior," District Spokesperson Sheri Brezeale said in a statement. "The campus immediately investigated, and they were swift with consequences. I cannot discuss decisions related to student discipline due to federal educational privacy laws."
