Missouri dumbass tries to put out garbage fire with van -- loaded with guns, ammo and gasoline

A Missouri man panicked when the garbage fire he started in a field went out of control -- so he made an ill-considered attempt to put it out.

The man jumped into his van and drove the vehicle back and forth over the flames, reported the Kansas City Star.

Then the tires caught fire.

That reminded the man that his van had a full tank of gas, and then he remembered that the vehicle was loaded with guns and ammunition.

So he jumped out of the explosive-laden vehicle and ran to a nearby hillside, where deputies spotted him about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday watching the van burn.

Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading, and the van burned down to its frame.

Deputies did not immediately cite the man, who decided against filing an insurance claim on the van.

“It seems like he’s just going to have to take a loss on that vehicle because I don’t think they’re going to cover it,” said Jon Bazzano, a spokesman for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

No one was injured in the incident.
