Months after Arkansas GOP rep was exposed for 're-homing' daughters to rapist, he's still making laws

Three months have passed since an Arkansas lawmaker was exposed for shipping off his adopted daughters to the home of a child molester who later raped one of the girls, and he continues to serve as state representative while he and wife still run a childcare operation out of their home.

According to the Arkansas Times, Rep. Justin Harris (R-West Fork) has laid low for months but is slowly emerging into the public eye, re-booting his Twitter account to tweet: "The wicked plots against the righteous and gnashes his teeth at him, but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he sees that his day is coming."

Harris became the center of a national story when it was revealed that he had handed over his adopted daughters to the rapist, claiming he couldn't handle them and that he believed the girls could communicate telepathically and were possessed by demons. What followed was a flurry of accusations and press conferences, with witnesses stating Harris and his wife were lying, and Harris blaming the Department of Human Services, claiming he was "the victim."

According to the Times, Harris is still drawing a paycheck as a state rep while he and his wife Marsha continue to run Growing God's Kingdom, a child care operation that gets 90 percent of its funding from state and federal coffers.

Since the horrific revelations were made public, Harris stepped down from his leadership post in the legislature, and even voted for a new law inspired by his own actions that makes it a criminal offense to "re-home" a child, punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. In a unique twist, the state legislature censured Harris' actions without censuring the legislator himself.

Poking his head above ground now the the dust has settled and he doesn't seem in danger of being driven out of office, Harris gave a speech at the Alma School District's convocation this week, to the dismay of several teachers and parents present.

Said one Alma teacher on Facebook about Harris showing up to speak at the ceremony, "The people I was sitting with were aghast when we spotted him. I mean our jaws were dropped."
