Morning Joe cackles in delight as Ann Coulter -- author of ‘In Trump We Trust’-- cries over betrayal

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough cackled with delight when he learned the full title of Ann Coulter's paean to President Donald Trump, now that she's declared him "dead" for apparently softening his stance on immigration.

The "Morning Joe" host mocked hardline conservatives who were angry that Trump had reportedly negotiated a deal with Democratic leaders on a legislative fix to Deferred Action for Child Arrivals -- which he promised voters he would end.

"There were actually people who were shocked (Thursday) that Donald Trump didn't do exactly what he told them they were going to do during the campaign," Scarborough said. "People like Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter, and Breitbart, but to hear them talk, it sounded an awful lot, it just sounded like members of the mainstream media."

He feigned shock to paraphrase these betrayed Trump supporters like Coulter, who called for the president's impeachment.

"'He's doing what? He cannot do this,'" Scarborough said. "'This is a shock, this is the most shocking thing I have ever sewn in my life.' (Rep.) Steve King (R-IA) was like, 'Trump's base will not stand for this.' I'm like, yes, they will, because Trump's base stands for everything."

He said those conservatives were finally learning what mainstream Republicans and reporters had noticed for months or even years -- that Trump cares only about himself -- but he doubted the president's most devoted supporters would ever abandon him.

"Steve King and Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity are insulted because he did something they don't like, (but that) doesn't mean Donald Trump's base is going to leave Donald Trump," Scarborough said. "They're not."

Noah Rothman, associate editor of Commentary, reminded Scarborough that Coulter had recently published a book titled, In Trump We Trust -- and the MSNBC host said he'd never heard of it.

"She actually wrote a book saying -- no, it's not, nobody does that," Scarborough said.

Then Rothman dropped the subtitle, "E Pluribus Awesome," on him, and Scarborough nearly fell out of his chair laughing.

"That's the book, the book is about how Trump is awesome," Rothman said.
