‘Morning Joe’ tries to be cool by comparing Trump to Prince — and fails miserably

Joe Scarborough really stretched to tie together two of Friday's top news stories.

The "Morning Joe" host was discussing a new report that quoted Donald Trump advisors who said the Republican candidate was just playing a "part" by essentially behaving the same way he has through more than three decades in public life.

Then he shoehorned a reference to Prince, whose death was previously discussed during the program, into the conversation, reported Media Matters.

"Trump voters, we all know right now, are so sticky -- they're not going anywhere," said panelist Donny Deutsch, an advertising executive and former CNBC host. "Everybody who's voted for Hillary, well, I guess Hillary. Number two, he can go to the left and right of Hillary and pretty much put portfolio of issues together he's behind."

Nicolle Wallace, the former co-host of "The View" who served in the Bush administration, described Trump as "nimble" -- which inspired Scarborough's pop culture reverie.

"I'll give you the last point in a second, but just on this other point where you said he's so flexible," Scarborough said. "He's like Prince -- a shape-shifter, New York Times top left, election 2016, 'Trump's views on gay issues set him apart on the GOP.'"

"I mean, Trump on social issues, on Planned Parenthood, when he was in the middle of the fight in South Carolina -- it wasn't like he was hiding things," he continued. "So Hillary is going to be up against a guy that not only says we're not going to cut Social Security, (but) I'm with you on social issues. And by the way, we're going to kill ISIS in two weeks."

Prince actually wrote a song called "Donald Trump (Black Version)," which The Time recorded for an album that remains unreleased.

He doesn't really take a position on the real estate tycoon-turned-reality TV star, but the lyrics describe a black version of Trump as "a man that fulfills your every wish, your every dream."
