MSNBC’s Maddow obtained bombshell Mueller investigation documents on former acting AG Dana Boente

MSNBC broke major news on The Rachel Maddow Show Tuesday, revealing multiple key documents shining light on the direction of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

The documents Rachel Maddow obtained concern Dana James Boente, the current general counsel of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. During the presidency of Donald Trump, Boente has also served as US Attorney, acting Attorney General, acting Deputy Attorney General and acting head of DOJ National Security Division.

Maddow showed a January 2, 2018 letter from Boente, who at the time was acting Attorney General. The letter informed Associate Deputy Attorney General Scott Shields that special counsel had requested to interview Boente.

Maddow also obtained a January 17, 2018 letter from the FBI Assistant Director of the Counterintelligence Division letting Boente know that his March 30th notes following a phone call with James Comey are unclassified.

"So Dana Boente is the man in the middle," Maddow explained. "From the very beginning here, he is right at the heart of all of this."

The host also revealed she has a photocopy of Boente’s handwritten notes, which are the first contemporaneous record confirming Comey’s testimony before Congress.
