MSNBC’s Morning Joe calls out networks for broadcasting Trump’s border ‘lies’ after declining Obama speech

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough blasted TV networks that will carry President Donald Trump's speech on border security, while refusing to broadcast a similar speech by former President Barack Obama.

The "Morning Joe" host said the double standard was obvious, but made even more glaring by the likelihood that Trump would tell numerous lies to justify his call for a border wall.

"He's going to be telling nothing but lies and falsehoods, and he's going to be twisting reality, just like he did -- my god, at this point I've got to say how stupid are Americans who still believe there's a crisis on the southern border?" Scarborough said.

Trump dishonestly hyped an immigrant caravan during the closing weeks of the midterm campaign, but quietly dropped the fear-mongering after Republicans lost control of the House of Representatives.

"They played you for suckers, they played you for fools, and I know that makes you angry," Scarborough said. "You know they're playing you for suckers and fools again, telling you there's this crisis at the southern border when immigration has been pulling out instead of coming in. More Mexicans have been going home than coming back to the United States of America illegally. Did you know that? That's been going on not for one year, not for two -- that's been going on for 10 years."

"You can look at Donald Trump's own statistics from Donald Trump's own government," he added. "He'll tell you that's been going on for a decade now. There is no crisis at the southern border, except for the humanitarian crisis that Donald Trump created himself, and if he wants to fix that crisis, he doesn't need to come on TV and lie to you at night. All he need to tell the Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department to get the hell down to the border, take care of those kids, make sure they're okay and do everything you can to get them reunited with their parents and sent home. That's the only crisis we have here."
