MSNBC's Rachel Maddow stunned by Trump official's exposure of administration 'resistance': 'It feels like the end of something'

Shortly after host Nicolle Wallace wondered whether a senior Trump official who penned an anonymous op-ed was committing a "coup," MSNBC's Rachel Maddow joined the show by phone to react to the bombshell editorial.

"This is an unusual day in American history," Maddow said, noting that although it seems nothing can surprise political spectators in the Trump era, the New York Times editorial penned by the senior official and member of the intra-Trump administration "resistance" did just that. 

"I just feel like somebody is trying to pull the fire alarm and I'm not sure that we know as a country how we are supposed to respond when an alarm like this is sounded," she mused.

For the editorial to come out just a day after Bob Woodward revealed the depth of the Trump White House's turmoil in excerpts from his new book, Maddow said, is telling.

"It feels like the end of something," she said. "I don't know what happens next."
