Social media erupted Friday night after President Donald Trump and his one-time MAGA ally Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) publicly turned on each other in a stunning and highly public meltdown.
The fallout began after Trump abruptly withdrew his endorsement of Greene and accused her of veering “far left” – a break few in the conservative movement ever expected. Greene quickly fired back with an extended statement less than an hour later, accusing Trump of lying, panicking over the looming release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, and trying to intimidate GOP lawmakers.
Over social media, journalists, political commentators and activists from across the political spectrum reacted in a wave of disbelief – and, for many, delight.
“Wow. Trump dumps MTG WHAT A NIGHT,” Sam Stein, managing editor of "The Bulwark” posted. “You love to see it!” commented right-wing influencer Laura Loomer.
“A reminder that Trump is loyal to no one. No one,” former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan wrote on X.
Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson appeared to invite Greene to the other side, writing: “Welcome to the resistance” above the Georgia lawmaker's reply post to Trump.
The online uproar came amid a chaotic evening in which Trump – after weeks of Greene breaking with him on several key issues – unleashed a blistering attack against her, sparking a full-blown public feud.
“This fallout with Marjorie Taylor Greene marks the beginning of the end for MAGA,” according to the popular social media account @CalltoActivism. “It’s quickly approaching the time Trump’s endorsement will be worse than the plague for Republican lawmakers. Bookmark this tweet.”
Democratic influencer Harry Sisson framed the back-and-forth between the former MAGA allies as a sign that Trump “is completely spiraling right now. The MAGA civil war just got even worse.”
“After 10 years, the tweets (truths) don’t stun like they once did,” Wall Street Journal reporter Josh Dawsey told his X followers. “But his post tonight unendorsing MTG is really worth a read.”
Lincoln Project co-founder Mike Madrid quipped to his own social media followers: "She’s gonna be a great new hostess on The View."
Meanwhile, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to post a series of screenshots from commentators slamming Greene.
