A plugged-in journalist highlighted an unusual detail about letters written to President Donald Trump by his close personal aide Natalie Harp.
The 80-year-old president's relationship with his 35-year-old staffer has undergone intense scrutiny this week after Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) mentioned her name in a speech last weekend, and The Daily Beast published intimate letters Harp wrote to her boss that were leaked to author Michael Wolff.
"You are all that matters to me," Harp wrote. "I don't want to ever let you down. Thank you for being my Guardian and Protector in this Life — That's what I wanted to use this card for, when you saw me at the Cash Register, and once again did what you didn't have to do, and gifted me with Mementos of this Trip of a Lifetime, a Coming of Age. I will return a better person."
The letters, dated to a 2023 trip to Scotland and Ireland, were given to biographer Michael Wolff by Trump campaign sources concerned about the relationship's closeness. Wolff included excerpts in his book "All or Nothing," and the New York Times later published shorter excerpts.
"I want things to always be right between us,” Harp wrote in one.
Journalist Sam Stein, who works for The Bulwark and MS NOW analyzed the letters and highlighted two key takeaways.
"Tough to read btw the lines of the Harp letters because they're so peculiar," Stein posted on X. "But two thoughts: 1. the new bit of info we get is Trump would call her when she hosted at OANN. Kinda odd. 2. Do portions seem written in code (?) --> 'Mementos' 'Coming of Age' 'Trip of a Lifetime.'"
Other social media users were struck by the odd tone in her letters to the president.
"The more interesting angle is how/why the letters were leaked," offered former Trump campaign staffer A.J. Delgado. "Someone in the WH hates her. Wolff doesn’t say it is someone in the WH who leaked them to him — rather, a 'reliable source' who was given these letters (by someone in the WH who grabbed pictures). Hmmm."
"As a former producer of a prominent cable news show -- I will say it's NOT out of character for Donald Trump to reach out to hosts (and reporters) directly," stated former MS NOW producer Nick Tuths. "I'm a few years removed from that experience now, but I know of multiple examples of him reaching out to multiple hosts."
"It reads a lot like the social posts she crafts for him," noticed widely followed X user epistemiccrisis.
"'Coming of age' was the one that got me," added popular X user Speak Out Now. "Reminiscent of Trumps shared little secrets with Epstein."
