A political analyst spotted a hole in President Donald Trump's base that Democrats could use to build a massive firewall after the midterms.
Scott MacFarlane, chief Washington correspondent for the MeidasTouch Network, argued on a new episode of his podcast "Scott MacFarlane Reports" that Democrats have a real shot at gumming up the rest of the Trump presidency if they perform well in a handful of key races in Pennsylvania.
"Even though Trump returned to power in part by winning Pennsylvania, [the state] could be his undoing in roughly 30 days," MacFarlane said. "There are at least four Republican-held U.S. House seats in Pennsylvania that Democrats think not only can they flip, but that they likely will flip. And with the margin so slim, four races here [or] five races here can be the difference, can give Democrats control, and could put up a big fat firewall over the final two years of the Trump agenda."
One of the races MacFarlane called out is in Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District, a seat currently held by Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA). MacFarlane said anecdotal evidence suggested Democratic challenger Bob Harvie has a real shot to unseat Fitzpatrick.
"Democrats are increasingly optimistic Harvie can be the one to finally surmount Brian Fitzpatrick in this very purple part of a very purple state," MacFarlane said.
