Nixon lawyer John Dean explains why GOP has already dropped the ball on the Kavanaugh-Ford hearing: 'It's a sham'

John Dean, the famed Nixon White House counsel, explained Wednesday why the GOP has already dropped the ball on their hearings questioning Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accused him of sexual assault when they were teens.

"I'm not sure we're going to get any resolution as to who is telling the truth and who is not tomorrow," Dean said during a CNN panel led by host Kate Bolduan. 

The attorney noted that viewers have an idea of both Kavanaugh and Ford's positions with the release of their opening statements for the Thursday hearing -- but those "previews" are not enough.

"There has been no real investigation on a bipartisan basis or by the FBI that precedes this," Dean said. "It's a rough setup, a setup for a he said/she said.

"If they vote on Friday as they're talking about, then this whole thing is just a sham," he added. "If there's further investigation, then they're serious about resolving this thing."
