North Carolina deputies kill dad after he wouldn't let them search for former roommate without a warrant

Sheriff's deputies shot and killed a North Carolina man after barging into his trailer seeking a former resident wanted for assault.

Deputies from the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office knocked on the door to John Livington's trailer about 3:30 a.m. seeking a man who no longer lived there, reported WNCN-TV.

Livingston's roommate, Clayton Carroll, said deputies asked if they could search the trailer.

The 33-year-old Livingston said he would not allow them to search without a warrant, Carroll said, and then he closed the door.

That's when a deputy kicked in the door and attacked Livingston, the roommate said.

Authorities said Livingston fought with deputies, but Carroll said his friend was only trying to take the Taser out of a deputy's hand after he was shocked and had mace sprayed in his face.

“He barely had the Taser in his hand, but he had it where it was constantly going off and the officer, I guess, that spoke to him rolled over there," Carroll said.

Livingston managed to get his hands on the Taser, and deputies shot him multiple times outside the front door to the trailer.

Another witness, Bristol Edge, said deputies shot him at least four times.

Livingston, a carpenter and father of three, was pronounced dead a short time later.

The deputies, whose names have not been released, were placed on administrative leave while the fatal shooting is investigated.
