Quickly responding to an editorial written by former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens for the New York Times, a frantic host at NRA-TV lashed out at the jurist, nominated to the court by Republican President Gerald Ford, as a "liberal" and a "disgrace to America."
Tuesday morning the retired justice caused a stir by writing that the 2nd Amendment, stipulating that a "well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed," was a relic from a different time.
“Concern that a national standing army might pose a threat to the security of the separate states led to the adoption of that amendment, which provides that ‘a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed,'” Stevens wrote. “Today that concern is a relic of the 18th century.”
According to the NRA's Grant Stinchfield , whose biography doesn't reveal any legal training but does boast of his background in auto care, Stevens went too far.
"How does a retired Supreme Court justice call for the repeal of the 2nd Amendment?" the NRA host argued. "Using the left's media outlet of choice, the New York Times, liberal justice John Paul Stevens made his words mightily clear."
"The repeal of the 2nd Amendment! From a man who once took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution," the host asserted incredulously. "He now admits he wants it dismantled. I have long said that the ultimate goal of the left is the repeal of the 2nd Amendment, this is proof my friends."
"They called me crazy, pushing conspiracy theories," he ranted. "'Paranoid,' I believe was the last headline. His replacement, Justice Kagan, another anti-gunner would like nothing better to secede [sic] total control to the government!"
"Justice Stevens, you may have been a Supreme Court Justice, and I may just be a small voice for freedom, but you sir should be ashamed of yourself," Stinchfield complained. "Your words and ultimate wish list is a disgrace to America and the values that we all hold dear."
