Obama National Security Advisor says report on foiled Christmas bombing will shock

Obama National Security Advisor James Jones said late Wednesday Americans will likely feel a "certain shock" after reading a report on the missed clues leading up to the failed Christmas day bombing.

The report is set to be released Thursday by the White House. Jones made the comments to USA Today.

President Obama "is legitimately and correctly alarmed that things that were available, bits of information that were available, patterns of behavior that were available, were not acted on," Jones said in the interview.

Obama's NSA Advisor also noted the White House had "two strikes" against it for missing clues about Army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 people at a US military base in Fort Hood, Texas, in November.

Jones said Obama "certainly doesn't want that third strike, and neither does anybody else."

The report will analyze missed clues regarding the alleged attempted plane bombing mounted by 23-year-old Nigerian national Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who attempted to bring down a commercial airliner en route to Detroit late last year.
