President Donald Trump may have purchased his Attorney General's loyalty long before he entered politics, according to a new report.
In 2013, Trump faced a litany of complaints against his now-defunct Trump University. At the time, Pam Bondi served as the Attorney General of Florida and was considering joining a lawsuit brought by the Attorney General of New York involving potential tax fraud charges.
However, Bondi refused to join the lawsuit after she received a $25,000 donation to her re-election campaign from Trump.
Bondi and Trump have both defended the legality of the donation, according to the report.
To White House columnist Brian Karem, the story is much less about the donation itself than it is about the amount of money Bondi appears to have sold her loyalty for.
"Trump apparently bought her for the equivalent of $480 a week, or roughly $12 an hour, for a year — you know, what the average food delivery driver earns annually," Karem wrote in an op-ed for Salon. "This makes Bondi the DoorDash Woman of the Year for Donald Trump. You get what you pay for."
Bondi has been one of Trump's most loyal supporters, even before she was confirmed as AG. For instance, he cheered on the crowd at the RNC as they chanted "lock her up." She has also helped spread lies about the 2020 presidential election being stolen by Democrats, and was one of the most vocal supporters of the Jeffrey Epstein conspiracy theories that Trump fed his base.
Since taking office, Bondi has continued to show her loyalty to Trump. She supported his efforts to pardon convicted January 6 rioters and has also tried to protect him from the Epstein files saga.
